In Dictum

It’s been a while, hey there again!

One of the things I do a lot in my free time is going to concerts. I usually don’t know the band but I go there anyway because I am really interested in music and in how musicians perform on stage. Also, I am kind of addicted to buying T-shirts from bands that aren’t mainstream.

Since I have just been studying Irish culture, I thought I am going to introduce Wallis Bird, an Irish artist that I really like. Besides her music in general, I really admire her guitar playing. I myself play guitar and reading about her past and seeing how she is playing impressed me very much. When she was really young, she had an accident with a lawnmower where she lost all her finger on her left hand and only 4 were sown back on. She is left handed but playing a right handed guitar reversed. It not only lets her music have a unique touch, it also is something I find quite exceptional.  I have seen her twice in concert and was both times very impressed. She had a lot of energy on stage which I really appreciated.

The blog post about blog posts

Hey there again!

I have just been looking through the blogs of last year’s students and I am actually very impressed. In my opinion, what makes those blogs so great is the way they are interacting with the possible reader. The way they pretend they are writing to a big audience. When reading, I felt like they are talking to me… and it makes it a lot easier to read and actually more interesting. Additionally, opening up and talking about things you have experienced makes it more exciting and interesting for the reader even if he or she is not that interested in the subject.

Those suggested blogs we had to look at were also rather organized and appeared to be quite pretty. I guess the layout is also important because it gives the reader a good first impression. However, I don’t think the layout was the reason that made them part of the best blog community. It is the way they shared their interests and experiences. It’s very authentic I guess.

My plan for this semester is to write more to the reader.  Even though I am quite sure that no one reads my blog, I intend to make it more authentic because that’s in my opinion what really makes the difference.

Profile of a Classmate

Hey there!

Last English class I met Verena H.! If you don’t know who I am talking about, she is the blue haired girl. She is originally from Germany but moved to Graz two years ago. Verena is not only studying at the ITAT institute English and Spanish, she also takes evening classes in Photographing Media Art. Besides taking photos in her free time, she also loves to play keyboard or video games. Further, she enjoys listening to random bands. All in all, Verena seems like a really fun girl to hang out with. I very much enjoyed talking to her.
